Minecraft Superflat Generator
Design your superflat world layer by layer and copy the settings. For Java you get the two lines for server.properties; for Bedrock you get the flat-world layer data. We tested both on the official Java 26.3 and Bedrock servers: every layer, the biome and the empty air above matched.

Layer 1 is the bottom, at Y -64 in Java 1.18+. The last layer is the top.

generator-settings={"layers":[{"block":"minecraft:bedrock","height":1},{"block":"minecraft:dirt","height":2},{"block":"minecraft:grass_block","height":1}],"biome":"minecraft:plains","features":false,"lakes":false,"structure_overrides":["minecraft:villages"]}Put these two lines in server.properties before the world is created (delete the old world folder first). The Java server on 26.3 builds exactly these layers.
How superflat layers work
A superflat world is built from a list of layers, bottom to top. Each layer has a block and a thickness. The first layer sits at the bottom of the world, at Y -64 in current versions, and the last layer is the surface. Everything above the last layer is air. A world has room for 384 blocks (Y -64 to 319), so the total thickness of your layers cannot be larger than that.
Popular layer setups
| Setup | Layers (bottom to top) | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Classic | 1 bedrock, 2 dirt, 1 grass block | Building, survival from scratch |
| Tunnelers' Dream | 1 bedrock, 230 stone, 5 dirt, 1 grass block | Digging, caves and mining |
| Redstone ready | 1 bedrock, 3 stone, 2 sandstone, 1 sand | Redstone and technical builds |
| Water world | 1 bedrock, 60 stone, 3 sand, 4 water | Ocean builds |
| Void | 1 air | Skyblock and map making |
These are our own presets. Change any layer after you load one.
Java and Bedrock are different
Java Edition reads the flat world from the generator-settings line in server.properties. The generator writes that JSON for you, including the biome, the Features and Lakes switches and the structure sets (villages, strongholds and so on). Bedrock Edition stores a list of block layers and a numeric biome id instead, and has no structure toggles in the flat world data. Pick the edition at the top and copy the matching output.
How we checked the output
We started the official Java 26.3 server with the generated settings and tested every layer with /execute if block, then checked the biome and the air above the top layer: 9 of 9 checks passed. For Bedrock we put the generated layer data into a flat world on the official Bedrock Dedicated Server and tested every block with /testforblock: 8 of 8 passed. The numeric Bedrock biome ids are the long-standing ids; we did not test the biome on the Bedrock server.
Tips for flat worlds
Keep bedrock as layer 1 unless you want a void world, because without it players can fall out of the world. Turn Features off for a perfectly clean surface, and Lakes off to stop water pools in the grass. For a village start, keep the Villages structure on and use a plains or desert biome. Delete the old world folder before you start the server with new settings, because the generator only runs when the world is created.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make a superflat world in Java?
Build your layers here, copy the two lines into server.properties, delete the old world folder and start the server. The world is created with your layers.
How do I make a superflat world in Bedrock?
Create a new world, choose the Flat world type and use the layer list from this page to build the same layers in the editor. The JSON shows the exact data Bedrock stores.
What is the maximum height of a superflat world?
A world is 384 blocks tall, from Y -64 to 319, so your layers can add up to 384 blocks.
Can I have structures in a superflat world?
On Java, yes: turn on the structure sets you want, such as villages or strongholds. The Bedrock flat data used here has no structure switches.
Why is my world not flat after changing the settings?
The settings only apply when the world is created. Delete the old world folder and start again.
