How to Find an Abandoned Camp in Minecraft

Updated 2026-10-22 · MC Seed Maps

The quickest way to find an abandoned camp is to enter your seed in our abandoned camp finder. It lists camps near you with coordinates and a copy-ready /tp command. Without a seed tool, run /locate structure #minecraft:abandoned_camp in a test world, or explore forests, taigas, jungles and savannas and look for a white wool tent.

What is an abandoned camp?

Abandoned camps are small campsites on the surface of the Overworld, added in Java Edition 26.3, the "Wilderness Bound" update. According to the Minecraft Wiki, every camp has one tent and one campsite in front of it. The tent is built from white wool stairs on a floor of dirt, gravel and path blocks. An unlit campfire and a chest or barrel sit close by.

Some tent walls are replaced with cobwebs or leaves, which gives the camp its "left behind" look. Trees or a tiny crop patch can grow nearby, and even the fences change with the biome: a camp in the pale garden uses pale oak fences.

The game has ten tent designs for each biome and 49 campsite designs, so camps in the same biome still look different. The wiki counts 8,820 possible combinations.

Which biomes have abandoned camps?

Camps generate in 18 biomes. All of them are woodland or open-grass biomes, plus the wooded badlands.

Group Biomes
Forests Forest, birch forest, old growth birch forest, flower forest, dappled forest, windswept forest, cherry grove, pale garden
Taigas Taiga, snowy taiga, old growth pine taiga, old growth spruce taiga
Jungles and swamp Bamboo jungle, sparse jungle, swamp
Open land Meadow, savanna, wooded badlands

The list is the same in our finder, and we compared it with the official 26.3 game data. Open the biome finder to locate a matching biome near your spawn before you search for camps.

How do I find one with a command?

Open a test world with cheats enabled and run:

/locate structure #minecraft:abandoned_camp

The game answers with the nearest camp in the form "The nearest abandoned camp is at [x ~ z]". Click the coordinates to put a /tp command in your chat. The # matters. In 26.3 each biome has its own structure id, such as minecraft:abandoned_camp_forest, and the tag groups them all. If you type only one variant, the command skips camps of the other biomes.

Two limits of /locate are worth knowing. It ignores height, and the result is not always the closest camp. The wiki notes that it can favour structures with larger spacing. Our finder lists every camp in the area, so you can choose the one you actually want.

How do I find camps from my seed?

  1. Copy your seed. In Java, type /seed in the world.
  2. Open the abandoned camp finder and paste the seed.
  3. Pick Java 26.3 and read the list. The closest camps come first, with their biome and distance.
  4. Press the /tp button, or open the seed map to see the camps next to villages and other structures.

Camps follow a fixed grid. According to the official data, the game uses regions 37 chunks wide with at least 8 chunks between camps, and the wiki says each region makes one attempt. Our finder reproduces this exactly. If you have not used a seed map before, read how to use a seed map.

Accuracy. Camps are new, so the finder is labelled Beta. On the official 26.3 server the game confirmed 45 of 48 camps our engine predicted, and in all 12 test worlds the nearest camp matched. A few predicted spots had no camp. Confirm a spot with /locate before a long trip.

What is inside a camp?

The loot comes from the game's own data for version 26.3. A camp can contain three kinds of containers.

Barrels hold small survival items: wheat, string, arrows, bread, coal, bones, leather, glass bottles, cobwebs, white candles and the new straw bed and white cushion. One extra roll gives a bundle, a wooden axe or a fishing rod.

Common chests give four to six items from a long list: arrows, bones, a compass, gunpowder, a fishing rod, flint and steel, a lead, leather, a saddle, a bundle and more. Two more rolls come from tools: a bow, a bucket, a spyglass, shears and copper tools and armour. One last roll is an abandoned camp explorer map.

Secret chests are the reason to dig around. The wiki describes oxidized copper chests that are often hidden under other blocks and not visible from the surface. In the 26.3 data they can hold a diamond, potions, copper, iron and gold ingots, iron tools and armour, and a map to a structure such as an ancient city, trial chambers, a woodland mansion or a mineshaft.

Because the common chest can also contain camp maps, a single camp can lead you to the next one. For the structures the maps point to, see how to find an ancient city and how to find trial chambers.

Are camps worth visiting?

For a new world, yes. A camp near spawn gives you string, leather, a fishing rod, bread and a compass without any mining. Copper tools and armour are also a quick early upgrade. The tent is a ready-made place to place a bed and set a spawn point.

Camps are not dangerous on their own, but the biome around them decides which mobs spawn, so bring light and a weapon at night.

Frequently asked questions

What is the command to find an abandoned camp?

On Java 26.3, run /locate structure #minecraft:abandoned_camp. The # means 'any of the camp variants'. There is one structure per biome, such as minecraft:abandoned_camp_forest, and the tag covers all of them. You need cheats on or operator rights.

Which biomes have abandoned camps?

Eighteen: bamboo jungle, birch forest, cherry grove, dappled forest, flower forest, forest, meadow, old growth birch forest, old growth pine taiga, old growth spruce taiga, pale garden, savanna, snowy taiga, sparse jungle, swamp, taiga, windswept forest and wooded badlands.

How often do abandoned camps generate?

The world is split into regions of 37 by 37 chunks, and each region makes one attempt. If the spot is in a valid biome, a camp generates. Camps are therefore spread out, and many regions have none.

What is in an abandoned camp chest?

Mostly small items such as arrows, bones, string, a compass or a fishing rod. Some chests hold copper tools and armour, a spyglass or an explorer map. A hidden oxidized copper chest can hold a diamond, iron gear and maps to other structures.

Do abandoned camps exist in Bedrock Edition?

Yes. The Minecraft Wiki says camps generate at the same locations in Java and Bedrock, which is unusual. Our finder shows them in Java mode only for now.

Is the camp finder accurate?

It is in Beta. We tested it on the official 26.3 server: the game confirmed 45 of 48 predicted camps (94%), and the nearest camp matched on 12 of 12 test seeds.
