Minecraft Amethyst Geode Finder

Enter your Java seed to see the nearest amethyst geodes with X, Y, Z coordinates and a ready-to-copy /tp command. Geodes are not structures, so /locate cannot find them. We checked the finder in the real game: 45 of 48 predicted geodes (94%) existed.

Approximate: about 94% of predicted amethyst geodes exist in the game. /locate cannot check them, so teleport and look before a long trip.

Predicted from world generation. Amethyst geodes are world-generation features, not structures, so /locate cannot find them. The /tp button goes to the geode's predicted centre (see Y). It is inside solid rock, so dig down from the nearest cave or surface.

Where do amethyst geodes spawn?

Amethyst geodes are hollow underground spheres with an outer shell of smooth basalt, a layer of calcite and a crystal-filled centre of amethyst blocks. Some of those blocks are budding amethyst, which grows crystal clusters. Each chunk has a 1 in 24 chance to try to generate one.

Good to know
  • Geodes generate between Y -58 and Y 30 in Java.
  • About 95% have a crack that exposes the inside.
  • Caves and canyons can be replaced by a geode, so some are easy to spot underground.
  • Geodes are features, not structures, so /locate cannot find them.

How to find amethyst geodes without a seed map

  1. Enter your seed and note the Y value of each geode.
  2. Use the /tp button to go to the predicted centre. It is inside rock, so dig down from the nearest cave or surface.
  3. Mine the amethyst blocks with any pickaxe. Budding amethyst cannot be picked up, even with Silk Touch, so break it carefully.
  4. If the centre is empty rock, try the next result: about 1 in 16 predicted geodes does not generate.

What you find inside

WhatDetails
Smooth basaltThe dark outer shell.
CalciteA white layer inside the shell.
Amethyst blocksThe crystal wall of the hollow centre.
Budding amethystGrows small, medium and large buds and amethyst clusters.

Java vs Bedrock

Geodes exist in both editions, but Bedrock uses a different height range and different generation, so Java positions do not match. The finder is Java only.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find an amethyst geode in Minecraft?

Enter your Java seed in the geode finder and use the /tp button to the predicted centre. Without a seed, explore caves between Y -58 and 30 and look for smooth basalt.

Can I /locate an amethyst geode?

No. Geodes are features, not structures. Use this finder, which gives X, Y and Z.

At what Y level are amethyst geodes?

Between Y -58 and Y 30 in Java. The finder shows the predicted Y for every geode.

How accurate is the amethyst geode finder?

We tested it on the official Java 26.3 server on 3 seeds. 45 of 48 predicted geodes existed (94%), and none of 16 empty areas without a prediction had one.

Do geodes generate on Bedrock?

Yes, but with a different height range and generation, so the positions are not the same. The finder supports Java only.
